The Spartan Locker is a newcomer to the game, and it was obviously designed by someone who has installed one or two lunchboxes in their time. The pins are bigger, there is no skinny screwdriver. If you plan on staying with 31' tires keep the 35 and throw in a cheap lunch box locker. Wouldn't put much money into a Dana 35. I have a Buddy that put a super 35 kit in his and he runs 35' tires so far no issues.
Easy Install
After a little research I decided to put a Spartan 'lunchbox' locker in the front Dana 30 of my 06 TJ. There are several install videos on youtube, so with about 20 minutes of study I was all set. I pulled the axles and removed the diff cover. I followed the instructions and installed the locker. The components seemed well made and stout. I had to fiddle a little to get the locker sections in the carrier. I tried inserting one end first and couldn't get the second half in. I switched and tried the other end first and the second half slipped right in. For about 30 seconds I didn't think it was going to fit and then it just slipped right in. I haven't had a chance to try it 4x4ing, but with normal on-road driving I have not seen any issues. I haven't noticed any locking on turns or any other bad behavior. Hopefully it does the job on the trail, but it may be a few weeks before I get a chance to try it. Also, I went ahead and replaced the axle seals while I had the diff apart and the axles out. Might be something to consider if you are working on an older vehicle.
